Do This, Not That: Centerpieces

I am so excited to finally share a new special series, “Do This, Not That” with you all! This series was born from a conversation with wedding planner and designer, Amber of Amber Veatch Designs, about how small tweaks can make a big difference in wedding design. In this series, you will see several elements of a wedding design done two ways, all photographed by Caroline & Evan Photography. One way will be the “Not That” way- generic, non-personal, and lacking intentional design. The second will be the “Do This” way, in which the element is taken a step further in personalization or design. The whole goal of this series is to show the amazing things that design can do for your wedding look, and I hope it will inspire you to design your wedding with intention! Take it away Amber!

First up is the centerpiece! Flowers can be a very challenging design element for brides, mainly because most people aren’t knowledgable about flowers. That’s okay, don’t be scared- this is where the professionals come in. We had V List Member Andrea Layne Floral Design create these two arrangements for us. A lot of brides on a budget come in to meet with her and request hydrangea and roses and/or greenery. Her theory is they do this for several reasons. Maybe those are the only three floral names they know and fair enough, you’ve probably never had to know anything about flowers before now. Or, maybe you read somewhere that you should use hydrangea because they are cheaper. There are just so many other flowers out there and they may not necessarily be more expensive than hydrangea and roses.

In the “Do This” centerpiece, Andrea used flowers and greenery that are at the same price point as the flowers in the “Not That” centerpiece. Now, the “Do This” centerpiece is indeed larger than the other centerpiece, so there is a price difference between the two, but if the “Do This” centerpiece was the same size as the “Not That”, then the price would be very close.¬†Work with your professional floral designer to think outside the box and help you select flowers that are within your budget, in season (those two tend to go hand in hand) and best of all, are cohesive to your wedding design.
